Now that Audi has confirmed a new A8 Hybrid for the 2018 year model, the German automaker has been caught conducting tests with a prototype model. What’s most interesting is that the spy shots of 2018 Audi A8 Hybrid have come up.
These spy shots show a heavily camouflaged prototype model on cornering apexes on Nurburgring. This heavy disguise also hints that some dramatic changes are on its way. Several reports confirm that 2018 A8 Hybrid will use the MLB Evo platform which also underpins Audi Q7.
2018 Audi A8 Hybrid Exterior Changes and Specs
Going with renders and spy shots, the trend of Audi’s “Singleframe” grille is likely to continue with 2018 Audi A8 Hybrid. For what it’s worth, the grille might grow to dominate this upcoming models’ front fascia.
The headlights and air inlets will feature sharp slants on the inner edges for a more dynamic look. New curves will complement the side body profile on top and the C-pillar might increase in width. The side body will get rid of protruding lines at the bottom which can be seen on the 2017 year A8 models.
Moving on, the lip on the deck-lid will be pronounced and taillights will retain the same shape. Stylish touch-ups might be in stock for the rear bumper and tailgate.
Spy shots do not show much of the interior cabin, but changes are in high suspicion. Given Audi’s typical treatment, interiors might not sport major changes. However, mild refreshments might influence center console to be more rather simplistic. The current generation Audi A8’s interior cabin already boasts an upscale styling which is likely to be carried forward in this new model.
A Hybrid Powertrain
There isn’t going to be much change under the hood of 2018 Audi A8 Hybrid. As most automakers have been dropping power outputs to achieve better fuel economy, 2018 A8 Hybrid is likely to go down a similar path.
This new hybrid model will carry over the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine along with electric motors capable of producing 40 HP. The final outputs of this hybrid powertrain might go as 190 HP and 225 lb-ft torque. This upcoming model is also suspected of performing a sprint of 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds.
As to fuel economy, expect figures to stay around 33 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. This engine will offer ZF 8 speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
2018 A8 Hybrid will offer an array of safety technologies including Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keeping Aid, Automatic Safety Belt Pre-tensioners, Multi-stage Airbags, Blind Spot Detection and Electronic Stability Control.
