General Motors has its safe haven, and it’s Buick. When things were pretty rough for GM, Buick brand proved to be a savior with a large popularity in China. Since then, GM has been giving a lot of attention to the Chinese auto market. Now, 2018 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid is in plans for expanding the HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) market reach.
2017 generation LaCrosse HEV has already hit the global markets. According to GM’s Executive Director of Global Propulsion Systems, 10 new energy vehicles will be released in China which will include Buick models. With all this, it seems that General Motors is really into a ‘green’ mission.
2018 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid Exterior Changes
The 2017 LaCrosse HEV is pretty much similar to the standard LaCrosse which will be the case in 2018 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid too. The new signature grille used in standard LaCrosse will also be featured in 2018 HEV variant. The sculpted hood could hold some changes for a more aggressive look.
This upcoming LaCrosse HEV will retain the small air vents on its fenders. To differentiate 2017 LaCrosse HEV from the standard models, an “HEV” badge is placed on the rear deck. The same will be done in 2018 LaCrosse HEV. According to car experts, there will be no major cosmetic change in 2018 LaCrosse HEV as the 2017 model already wears all the success formulas.
An Avenir-inspired cabin is featured in 2017 LaCrosse HEV which will be brought up in 2018 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid as well. The current generation LaCrosse’s interior cabin consists of unique padding structure that provides exceptional comfort. This will be retained in the new LaCrosse HEV along with improvements. The current LaCrosse HEV model in the US features wooden trims in door panels, dashboard, and center console. The 2018 model is likely to retain all.
As to technology, Buick’s latest IntelliLink infotainment system will be featured with the support for Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Noise damping will be revised as well.
According to what experts have predicted, 2018 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid is going to borrow its drivetrain from the existing 2017 LaCrosse Hybrid. This consists of a 1.8-liter SIDI engine which makes use of an electronic variable transmission. The car will retain the 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is used in the current HEV.
2017 LaCrosse US HEV models can deliver a mileage of 17 mpg in city and 26 mpg on highways. Expect these figures to be improved on the next-generation LaCrosse HEV. When compared with standard LaCrosse, 2017 HEV model slower to accelerate as 0-62 mph takes almost 8.9 seconds.
However, 2018 LaCrosse HEV will be improved on efficiency as features like exhaust thermal energy recycling, active grille shutters, electronic power steering and automatic climate control compressor will be incorporated.
Price and Release Date
2018 LaCrosse will hold a starting price more than $32,000. Several reports hold that this model will hit the dealerships in early 2018 and there’s no official confirmation regarding this.
