It is for a fact that Chrysler was the first automobile manufacturers to produce a minivan. And this is just what they intend to do all over again with this upcoming 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Although the name is something that they should have thought of first – this is not just a hybrid but a plug-in hybrid at that too.
2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Features
One of the best features of this car is that it does not require the combustion engine to kick in for start and throttle scenarios. The battery provides ample power for this minivan to accelerate smoothly.
Test drives have shown that pure electricity range is above the company estimate of 30 miles by 2 more miles on an average. Regenerative Braking features are also present in this vehicle but they are not as strong as ones found in BMWs.
Combined fuel economy with the battery on full charge comes in at around 84 MPGe.
This plug-in hybrid can be charged with a 120 Volt charging cable which comes with this car. It takes an average 14 hours to full charge from a level 1 power source and around 2 hours from level 2 power sources.
Transmission will be GMs eFilte electrically variable automatic transmission. All these models will come with a FWD (forward wheel drive) powertrain.
Exterior and Interior Specs
Built on GMs Global Large Vehicle Platform – this minivan promises ample space just as its gasoline-only cousin. And that is the only thing which is different in this 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Standard features in the base model will include: –
- Active Noise Cancellation.
- Sat-Nav parking.
- ParkView Rear Camera Setup.
- 6 Speaker Audio.
Added features in higher trims include optional Nappa leather upholstery, premium 13 Speaker Alpine audio, Adaptive Cruise Control and other safety features too. Hands-free sliding doors and lift-gate features might come in with the base model although that would be highly speculative.
2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Powertrain
This vehicle will have both gasoline and electric engines together. The combustion engine will be GMs’ competent 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine. And this engine will be coupled with a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which will be stored under the 2nd row of seats. Although the manufacturers say that cargo space will not be hampered.
Power specs will come in at around 260 HP. This is engine will come with an Atkinson cycle to boost economy. Atkinson cycle engines have a higher compression ratio and a weak low rev torque which in turn is supplied by the 2 electric motors in this car.
This is the only official specs which are available; there are no combined torque-specific power specs. However, preliminary test drives of this 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid have shown other stats which are equally commendable.
Price and Review
Pricing is going to start from around $43,000. But with the electric packages installed, this 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid will come be eligible for multiple government rebates bringing the tag down to below $35,000. This is something which can give this minivan just the boost it needs for splendid sales.
