Jeep is hard at work to develop its next-generation Wrangler. This new model – 2018 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid is bringing up diesel and hybrid powertrain to improve its fuel economy.
FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has recently confirmed changes to investors via a presentation which also includes plans to delay Alfa Romeo’s product schedule. According to officials at FCA, extensive workout will be done in this period on “advanced powertrains” to meet emission regulations and competitive fuel economy.
2018 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid Exterior Changes
As to exterior styling, the next Jeep Wrangler (including the hybrid model) will be a mixed bag. Although the new model will retain its iconic styling, it will carry a new look at some areas. The grille will unquestionably make its return, but Wrangler will have aerodynamic slant rearwards.
The same applies to its windshield as it will be short and squarish. This also hints that the folding windshield might be abandoned as doing so will help in reducing wind drag. Changes in the rear would influence the bumper. In fact, several reports hold that 2018 Jeep Wrangler – Diesel, Hybrid will borrow taillight designs from Renegade.
There are high possibilities that Jeep will do some mods in the chassis to place the electric motor’s battery pack under the seats. Also, Jeep will retain the front plastic park-bench bumper but with a new design.
What’s most controversial is that several reports suggest a dramatic redesign over the top. So much so the removable hard top will be completely replaced by roll-over protection.
Moving to the interior cabin, there are two things to bet on – rugged styling and technological advancement. Expect a 5.0 inch Uconnect infotainment system as standard and an 8.4-inch unit as optional. Like standard Wranglers, 2018 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid will retain the all-terrain removable carpets and offer leather upholstery as optional. The driver’s instrument cluster will get a new TFT display for real time vehicle updates.
While there is no official yet, the odds are great that this 2018 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid could do some part of sharing with the Pacifica Hybrid which has recently been announced. This 2018 Wrangler Hybrid’s powertrain will combine a pair of high-power electric motors and a ZF 8 speed automatic transmission.
Going with the specs, the hybrid powertrain might deliver a driving range of 920 km (571 miles) in total and 53 km (32 miles) in full electric mode. This also suggests that the fuel economy might stay around 47 mpg on a combined cycle.
Price and Release Date
As Wrangler is Jeep’s hot-selling vehicle, there’s no doubt that a hybrid variant will impress the public. For pricing, Jeep might present this hybrid variant with a price tag of around $32,000. Similarly, 2018 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid is expected to come out by the 1st half of 2018.
