Tesla is one emerging automaker that certainly lives up to its promise. The company has lived up to the expectations with its Roadster; a performance-oriented car that doesn’t need a fuel tank or a combustion engine as it rolls all-electric. Now, as part of running the show, this model is up for entering a new generation as 2018 Tesla Roadster.
2018 Tesla Roadster – the style factor!
Although rumors hold that this new-gen Tesla Roadster will come in a new avatar, there’s no confirmation of it. But one thing’s for sure that this 2018 Roadster will wear Tesla’s ongoing modern design language that involves the headlights wearing curvy recesses.
Furthermore, front and rear fenders will integrate voluptuous haunches for projecting a sporty body profile. Also, 19-inch machined alloy wheels will be a new addition to this upcoming Tesla Roadster.
The biggest change in Tesla Roadster 2018 would be the use of the company’s 3rd generation platform which is used in the current generation Model 3. Moreover, this upcoming Roadster is likely to share most of its underpinnings with the next-gen Model 3 as Tesla has been improving it wholeheartedly.
Another biggest roll-out would be an all-new aero kit for laying out massive improvements on aerodynamics to reduce overall drag. Rest assured, exterior styling will see improvements as well.
Although everybody is aware of the fact that Tesla Roadster 2018 will come completely electric, official details about the powertrain are scarce (and scarce would be an understatement here). However, 2018 Roadster should be available with both rear wheel drive and all-wheel drive, much like Tesla Model S.
Both variants are expected to use a hand-built 70 kWh battery pack. The electric motor(s) will be able to deliver 290 HP and 320 lb-ft torque. Likewise, Tesla will put out improvements in acceleration as well. Rear wheel drive variant will complete the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than 3.6 seconds and AWD models will do the same under 4 seconds. As speculated, this all-electric powertrain will pair up with a single speed, fixed gear Borg-Warner transmission system.
With a suspected drive range of almost 250 miles, 2018 Tesla Roadster will make every other EVs including Audi A3 Sportback e-tron and Lexus CT look like coal-powered vehicles. The main reasons for Tesla being able to coax such tremendous drive range would include cutting down on unnecessary weight and using regenerative charging system which involves doubling the motor as a generator.
Price and Release Date
As Tesla stands for affordability, 2018 Tesla Roadster is suspected of going easy on the pockets with a starting price of around $29,000. The company is even reported to schedule official launch date by the 1st half of 2018.
